Embyo Adoption and Donation
Levels of Fertility Clinic Involvement

The Embryo Adoption Awareness Center (EAAC) has identified several levels of involvement that clinics may want to consider regarding embryo donation.

Embryo Donation and Adoption Authority
Clinic maintains expertise on issues relating to embryo donation and adoption and actively educates clients about this fertility option. Tools available from the Awareness Center are listed to the right.
  1. Embryo Disposition Brochure
    • Insert for embryo storage billing
    • Inclusion in initial IVF overview
  2. Embryo Donor Brochure
    • Excellent handout for the education of patients regarding the process of embryo donation
  3. Embryo Donation Power Point
    • A great tool you may customize and use for educating your patients about remaining embryos and what choices they may have for them
  4. Clinic Personnel Education
    • The Awareness Center offers monthly webinars to inform, update and clarify requirements for embryo donation. By staying informed, clinics are able to provide patients with appropriate testing procedures which enable your patients to keep all of their future options for disposition open
Starting/Accelerating Embryo Donation Program
Clinic begins or increases involvement with in-house embryo donation program. Works to promote their embryo donation program with patients and within community.
  • More than 200 clinics in the U.S. have embryo donation programs. Some programs are limited to existing patients, some allow new patients to participate
  • Giving new patients access to donor embryos increases clinic revenues
  • Encouraging embryo donation by patients reduces frozen embryo storage management
Partnering with an Adoption Agency
Clinic establishes partnership with local adoption agency to create a successful Embryo Donation/Adoption program. Clinic expands patient base and medical revenues and decreases liabilities associated with the social/emotional aspects of embryo donation and adoption.
  • Offers direct assistance from the agency to patients for embryo disposition decisions
  • Agency manages the program, not the clinic, unbiased matching completed by agency
  • Future communication between parties is the agency's responsibility not the clinic's
  • Reduces clinic paperwork and future liabilities
  • Clinic controls embryo/birth statistics by keeping embryos in-house
  • New patients are directed to the clinic bringing new revenue
  • Uses embryos created, frozen and thawed by the clinic
  • Reduces embryo storage at the clinic
  • Reduced/eliminated transportation of embryos between clinics

"Embryo adoption provides a positive option to parents with remaining embryos and offers another [adoption] alternative to couples hoping to expand their own families.

We now have two little miracles who are a testament to the wonders of life and the beauty of adoption."
