The embryo adoption process is one that’s filled with hope and happiness, but because emotions and expectations are so high, the process isn’t without its stressful moments. A lot of stress will occur in the waiting times; waiting to hear that you’ve been matched with a donating couple, waiting to hear how your embryos have thawed, and waiting to hear whether or not the frozen embryo transfer resulted in pregnancy. Here are some tactics you can try to make those embryo adoption waiting times less stressful:

  • Stay busy. Don’t allow the embryo adoption process to take over your life. Keep up with your hobbies, community involvement, and connections with friends. It will make the waiting seem to go by much faster if you aren’t sitting at home thinking about it.
  • Practice positive self-talk. Don’t let thoughts like “If I haven’t heard by now it must be bad news” or “This is never going to happen” pop into your mind. If they do, correct yourself with a positive statement, then move on. Give yourself a pep talk and then distract your mind.
  • Pamper yourself. If you can, get a massage or even go for an acupuncture treatment. These treatments not only reduce stress, they can even help prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy. That’s two great benefits in one!

Feeling overwhelmed with worry? Don’t hesitate to reach out to a support community or a professional. There is no shame in admitting that you need help dealing with the stress – you are waiting to hear about your future family!
